Design Trends

Each year Interior Designers and the public alike are faced with new Design Trends. Some are good...some are not so good...some don't seem like trends at all. ran an article in December of last year featuring what some Interior Designers thought to be the Top Ten Interior Design Trends of 2010. Over the past couple of months I have been featuring those trends on Spaces Interior Design's Facebook page. Here are the highlights!

Trend #10: Anything goes!
What a great idea! Many balanced, wonderful, truly personal and lived in spaces are a mix of new & old, classic & trendy, traditional & modern. A home should not be pulled from a page of a catalog, or look like a real estate staging. Life is an adventure & a place of growth. So is your home!

Mix it Up!
Thanks Elle Decor
In the front drawing room, a cocktail table by T. H. Robsjohn-Gibbings is grouped with a sofa by George Smith upholstered in a Claremont fabric, a pair of Claude Lalanne chairs, a Utrecht armchair by Gerrit Rietveld, and a rug by the Rug Company. The artworks include a Gary Hume painting over the mantel, a rabbit sculpture by Benedetta Mori Ubaldini, and a Tracey Emin neon piece, Trust Me, above a painting of the Deauville racecourse by Emilio Grau Sala that belonged to d’Ornano’s parents.

Mix it Up!
Designed by Paula Caravelli
Vintage spoon chairs found at a Salvation Army thrift shop flank a brass cocktail table by Gerald Bland in the living room; the burlap-upholstered settee and gilt-wood console are both Swedish, the zinc roof finial is 19thcentury French, and the drawing, Trees IV, is by Joan Mitchell.

Mix it Up!
Designed by Nate Burkus & Anne Coyle
The tufted sofa in the living room, upholstered in an Edelman patent leather, and cowhide rugs are from Anne Coyle Interiors.
